I’ve been hiking peaks on Vancouver Island for many years, so when couples reach out to me and say they want to do an adventure session in the mountains I am always more than stoked. After some discussion and me consulting my list of best hikes for adventure session on Vancouver Island (good effort to reward ratio), we settled on 5040 Peak in July.

You cant go wrong with choosing what is known as “The Best Hike on Vancouver Island.” And honestly, I have the logistics for this hike down to a fine art as I hike this trail at least once a year, often descending in the dark. We met at the bottom of the FSR and rode to the trailhead together in my trusty Subaru. We made good time getting up the slope into the alpine, and after stopping at Cobalt Lake for a snack and water refill, we arrived at the summit roughly 90 minutes before sunset, giving us plenty of time to eat dinner and brew some coffee before we began taking photos.

The mosquitoes were relentless but the views were breathtaking! There were no clouds in sight, meaning we had endless 360 degree views all around. This was probably my fifth time shooting a couple up at 5040 Peak and it truly never gets old. If you are looking to have hiking elopement, there is a beautiful hut that is available to rent as well for a very reasonable fee!

Maybe it’s the mosquitoes, the sweat, or shared snacks, but adventure sessions will always have a special place in my heart and I always feel so connected to couples that I get to hike with!
