Want to have your wedding on your own semi-remote private island? Yes? Say no more! You can hang out with your friends and family for the entire weekend at Sunset Island Resort. Mountain views, crystal clear water, a hot tub to relax in, and a stage to bring your own live music if you wish! This venue has everything you need for a fun weekend wedding getaway!

When I arrived I met Trinity and her bridesmaids up at the main cabin for some quick getting ready photos. Once she was buttoned into her dress I headed down to the lower lawn area where the ceremony was to be held. They had the ceremony facing the mountains to the West where you can see Klitsa Peak on a clear day.

After their ceremony I followed the couple up to the Love Nest where they exchanged private vows on the bluffs overlooking Sproat Lake. It was a beautiful few minutes, and I definitely recommend all of my couples carve out at least a few minutes to have some time to themselves during the day. After that we rolled into taking family portraits, wandered around and did wedding party photos, and then more pictures with just the bride and groom.

After that their reception began and many guests changed into more casual clothing (mostly to stay warm with the brisk wind coming through). I had a great time mingling and taking candid photos of all their friends and family! Speeches commenced while we waited eagerly for the caterers to arrive with dinner. Once the feed was complete, I stole Trinity and Nick away again as the clouds had parted and we were gifted with glorious golden light! They even walked out into the diving board above the lake for some epic shots. They then had their first dance and the guests continued to mingle, and it was sadly time for me to head home! I would have stayed later to enjoy the evening with them, but I was 30 weeks pregnant at the time and absolutely exhausted.

As a wedding photographer I am always so excited to capture a wedding at Sunset Island Resort! Not only because I am local to Port Alberni, but the views are incredible, it’s situated perfectly to catch a sunset (hence the name) and the space is so versatile to suit many different visions. Trinity and Nick were going for a summer camp vibe and absolutely nailed it! The resort is located on Sproat Lake roughly 40 minutes drive from Port Alberni on a forest service road and still accessible with a Honda Civic. You really feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere but still have cell reception!
